The 2024 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the Japanese anti-nuclear weapons organization Nihon Hidankyo
Nihon Hidankyo (Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations) was established in 1956 and represents survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, known as hibakusha. It advocates for nuclear disarmament and raises awareness of the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons. The organization works to preserve the memory of the bombings, supports the welfare of survivors, and campaigns globally to eliminate nuclear weapons. Nihon Hidankyo’s efforts have been recognized as pivotal in the global anti-nuclear movement, culminating in their receiving the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize.
